Williams Lineages Underway

This section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!

And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

I have traced my Williams ancestry back to my gggrandfather, Jeremiah Williams who was born in CT about 1793. This is where I have hit my brick wall. I have been unable to find Jeremiah's ancestors. The family migrated to Ohio, probably in the early 1800's. Jeremiah married Lavinia Carpenterin Franklin Co. Ohio in 1821. Lavinia was born to Reuben Carpenter in Barre City Vermont about 1791. They had four chrildren born in Ohio. They were:
Angelina born in 1823 died in Texas ?
Jeremiah born in 1825 died 1871 in Texas
Lucy born in1830 died 1911 in Texas
Cyrus born in 1832 died 1916 in Texas
I found the family in Nacogdoches Co. Tx in 1840 and 1850. The family settled in Kaufman Co. Tx in the early 1850's. Jeremiah Jr. and Cyrus joined the 20th Texas Calvary(CSA) during the Civil War.
I know there has to be family in New England and Ohio. If anyone thinks they maybe related or has any information on Jeremiah Sr's ancestors I would appreciate hearing from you.

I have been searching for my Grandfather John D. WILLIAMS for about 25 years He was born 1857 in MS and died 1902 in Walker County AL. He married Celia WEDGEWORTH, who was born 1856 in MS and died 1937 in Walker Co. AL. John must have been a very good, poor, man because he left NO paper trail at all. I think maybe the only way I'm going to find him is through the uncommon name of Wedgeworth or through an unknown cousin. If anyone knows "anything" that I can do or about this family, please contact me.

They had seven children
1. George Hill b.1879 AL, and d.1910 Walker Co. AL.
2. John Wesley (Bud) b.1883 MS, and d.1963 Walker Co. AL.
3. Annie b.1887 MS, and d.1971 in AL. (married Ishom Dodd)
4. David Harris (Walker) was b.1888 in Tuscumbia AL, and d.1964 in Memphis, TN.
5. Albert Hendon b.1893 in MS and d.1984 in Rockford IL.
6. Thomas Wilson b.1896 Walker Co. AL. and d. Abt. 1971 in FL.
7. William Shafter b. 1900 Walker Co. AL and d.1957 in MI.

They moved to Waukesha Wisconsin. Albert died April 18, 1900 in Waukesha. His death certificate lists the date of birth, place of birth and Henry as father, no mother listed. Thank you.

My Brick Wall is Wilson C. Williams born ca 1803/4 Georgia. Married Mary Ann Galloway March 13th, 1824, in Henry County, Alabama. They left Alabama for Florida in early 1851, Possibly with members of the following families, Barrentine, Wright, White. I believe that Wilson C. Williams is connected to the Williams families in Bulloch, Tattnall, Montgomery and possibly Tto the Willis and Williams families of Wilkinson County, Georgia. I t is possible that his father was Robert Williams, since a son and at least two grandsons were named Robert, and there was a Robert B. Williams on the 1830 Henry County U.S. Census with another male in the house hold age 60 but less that 70, with a female at age 50 but less than 60. I believe that Wilson C. Williams was a minister of the Gospel in Sumter County, Florida , possibly also in surrounding area. He was Also Probate Judge & School Superintendent ,Sumter County,Fl. 1869. The U.S. Census records list his mother and father as having been born in Georgia.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for John R. Williams, born 1891 in PA. He was my paternal grandfather. His father may have been a coal miner who immigrated from Wales. I don't know his name. John probably worked in the mines also. Later, he became a traveling musician (trumpet or trombone). Family legend says he met my grandmother, Alice Shoburg (unsure of spelling) in Deadwood, SD and were married. However, I sent for a copy of their marriage certificate and found nothing. Haven't checked neighboring states.

At some point they moved to Washington State, where my father, Donald Joseph Williams, was born 10 January 1922 in Junction City, near Aberdeen on the coast. A sister was born 1 or 2 years later. I have my dad's birth certificate, which lists John R. Williams as the father and as having been born in PA. The certificate says it was a legitimate birth, so they were married somewhere.

John then deserted the family. From there, he disappears. Alice divorced him (no papers found) and married a George Emsing. Again, no papers found. Emsing was very bad for my father and aunt and placed them in a succession of foster homes, from which Alice would periodically "liberate" them. I have a copy of the 1920 census showing them living in Oakland, CA.

Any assistance or clues would be helpful. Even little paths through the woods would be better than this brick wall.

Bessie was the daughter of Bennett SMITH and Lydia WILLIAMS, b. 8 Jan 1827 Randolph County, North Carolina - daughter of Marmaduke Williams b. 28 May 1804 Randolph County, North Carolina and first wife, Amy JOHNSON, b. unk - d. 16 Nov 1849 Randolph County, North Carolina. Marmaduke married second in 1855 to Mrs. Elizabeth CRAVEN. Sources indicate that Marmaduke WILLIAMS was the son of Daniel WILLIAMS and Nancy E. COLE.

Would like any information anyone could provide on these individuals and would be happy to share what I have so far.

I am attempting to locate my GGGF and GGGM. I have the following information: GGF William Andrew Williams JAN 15 1860 - MAR 10 1912 GGM MATTIE E. ROUNDTREE JUL 24 1873 - JAN 10 1941 They were married in Panola County Texas 1888. CHILDREN: MAGGIE O. WILLIAMS MAR 1890 - ? JOHN E. WILLIAMS OCT 1891 - ? WILLIE LAWSON WILLIAMS MAY 1894 - 1977 GF ISRAEL ODEN WILLIAMS OCT 1895 - 1942 MYRTIS A. WILLIAMS MAY 1897 - ? GF ISRAEL WILLIAMS OCT 1895 - 1942 GM VERNA MAE HOLLINGSWORTH JAN 3 1906 - FEB 23 1985 F CALVIN EUGENE WILLIAMS JUL 23 1928

have been to Logansport , Louisiana and visited the graves of deceased named above. I have pictures of their headstones. I know William Andrew was born in LA. and the census indicated his father was born in LA. This is where I am stuck. I know my GF dropped Israel and went by Oden, and his brother dropped Willie and went by Lawson. Mattie could be Martha or Matilda. William could be listed as Wm., Willie, Bill, W. Andrew, etc. Census indicates Mattie was born in LA., her father was born in Alabama, and her mother was born in LA. Since my family is buried in Logansport, and my father was born in Logansport, they must be from that area. I can not figure out why they would be buried there if they were not originally from there.
