Williams Lineages Underway

This section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!

And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

My earliest proven ancestor is Roger Williams (Roger Sr.), who married Mary unknown and stayed in Surry Co. until his death in ca. 1704. Roger?s first definitive appearance is in the 1668 Surry Co., Virginia tythables, where he is enumerated with his lifelong friend, Christopher Lewis, who was quite a bit older than Roger Sr. From Roger?s will, we know he had at least 3 sons; Roger, Samuel and George.

It is proving quite difficult to determine which, of the many Williams is our immigrant patriarch. A very strong possibility is in a land patent, in Isle of Wight Co., VA, to John Upton in 1638, for the transport of Roger Williams and Christopher Lewis (among others). It is thought that Roger (who I will call Roger the Elder) had a few children by wife unknown. Other possible children have been theorized to be John and Lewis Williams (of Isle of Wight). Another possibility is that the Roger of 1638 was the brother of John of 1640 (married Anne Whitley). It is suspected that Roger the Elder was the father of our Roger Sr, but proof has been very difficult to find because of the scarcity of records from that area at that time.

Roger Sr. and Mary had a son, George Williams who married Joannah Andrews and moved to Bertie Co., NC around 1720 as indicated by land transactions. One of their children, Richard Williams, who married Mary/Elizabeth Mann, stayed in Bertie until his death in 1761. One of their children, George Williams moved to Chatham Co., NC after his service in the Rev. War and after the death of his first wife, Sarah Hollowell (?). After his arrival in Chatham Co., he married Delpha Kelly. Some of their descendents still live in Chatham Co. today. I descend from George's son, Henry Williams, who married Mary Jenkins. Many of their children moved to DeSoto Co., MS before the Civil War. One of their sons, who remained, was George Jackson Williams. He served as county Sheriff (1865-1874) and Williams Township, Chatham Co., NC was named in his honor. One of his children, George Sanford Williams, served in the Civil War and was wounded three times, including at Gettysburg. He married Lucinda Upchurch. My great-grandfather, Henry McDonnel Williams, moved to Carborro, Orange Co., NC (next door to Chatham) and between his two wives, had over 20 children, 18 of which lived.

I'm interested in a Daniel Williams that settled in the Lawrence Co, AR area in the 1820's. He is shown on several Tax lists throughout the 1820's. He came from Chenango Co., NY. His wife's name was Philadelphia Parker. He had several children, including Parker Williams (b. ca 1805). Daniel Williams was born around 1770. I'm trying to locate where he lived in Lawrence county, as well as where he is buried.

My grandmother was Alice Esther Williams of Lancaster County, South Carolina. Her father was David Aurelius Williams who was a second sargeant in the "Lancaster Invincibles" of the Civil War. He was
wounded at First Battle of Manassas. His father was Uriah Williams from Lancaster County. David R. Williams was Uriah's father. Here comes the rub. Uriah's father was named William Williams. According to what I can find, he was born in 1715 and 1737. He was born in Hanover County, Virginia, Millwood, S. C. , and North Carolina. He was married to Mary Bunn from North Carolina. Everyone seems to agree on his marriage. He died in Lancaster, S. C. and is buried in Fork Hill Cemetery, in Lancaster County. Everyone agrees on that fact too. Has anyone else written you about this line and do you have any help for me? I have a list of possible fathers.

HERE IS THE INFORMATION I HAVE ON MY WILLIAMS FAMILY. MY MOM'S MAIDEN NAME WAS WILLIAMS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND ANY CONNECTIONS!!!

My Mom's Dad was Daniel Isaac"Ike" Williams who was a Democrat and an Idaho State Senator in the early 40's. He was nicknamed "Honest Ike" and only served one term because, as family has said, "He was too honest!" Quite an accomplishment to hold an office in the Republican State of Idaho as a Democrat. The people believed and supported him and his campaign as he was a fairly poor man. His father was Henry Clay Williams, who was the son of Daniel I. Williams b. 1818 Perry, Tennessee d. 1895 Choctaw, Arkansas married Malida Polk, b. Dec 1823 Henderson, Tennessee. Malinda's parents were William Gosh Polk, b. 1790 in N.C., d. 1856 Van Buren Arkansas and Sarah Jarrell Huie (Warren?) B. 1797 in Kentucky d. before 1860 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Daniel's parents were Roland Williams and Mary Story, b.about 1790. Mary Story's parents were Daniel Elijah Story, b. 1759 Southampton County Virginia, d. 1840 in Tennessee and Elizabeth Speed, b. 1763 Southampton County Virginia and died about 1793. Daniel Story's parents were James and Ann Story, James Story b. 1725, d. 1784 in Southampton, Virginia and his dad was Daniel Story, b. about 1695 d. 1752 in Southampton or Franklin County. Roland William's (Rolland) sp.? father was Roland (Rolland) Williams and his mother was Fereby Bailes and I have no information on dates or places of birth or death. My Granddad's mother was Martha Elizabeth (Lizzie) Perkins, b. 1866 Guntersville, Marshall County, Alabama, d. 1958 Carter, Beckham County, Oklahoma whose father was Isaac Perkins, a Private in the Twelfth Alabama Infantry, Company G, "The Paint Rock Sharpshooters". Her mother, Sarah (Sally) Kirby was said to have been a member of a primitive Baptist Church. Isaac and Lizzie Perkins separated before little "Ike" was born and although Isaac remarried twice more, once to a woman with the last name of Teague? Lizzie Williams (Perkins) never remarried and died in Carter, Oklahoma. Lizzie was said to have some Indian blood and her appearance suggested it as well because, although she had a small frame, she was said to be beautiful, a remarkably striking woman of olive skin and long straight black hair and although she never spoke of nor denied her Indian heritage she was very sensitive to the plight of the Indians. Private Isaac Perkins, born 1831 in Jackson County, Alabama. Isaac Perkins parents were Jabez Perkins, Jr. and Rachael Wright (daughter of Isham Wright?). Jabez Perkins, who was born in 1796 in Wilson Creek, Virginia was said to have been one of the soldiers who assisted with the removal. He died in 1859 in Marshall County, Alabama. Isaac married Sarah Anne Justice, his step-sister I am told, born in 1838 in Jackson County, Alabama. Jabez's parents were Jabez Perkins, Sr. and Nancy Anna Creekmore. Sarah's parents were Thomas Justice born in 1803 in Franklin County, Tennessee and Sarah (Sally) Kirby born in 1800 in Marysville, Blount Co, Tennessee Later she remarried Jabez Perkins, Jr. who was Isaac's father. Sally Kirby's parents were John Kirby and Jane Adair, born in 1770 and died 2/10/1835 in Jackson Co., Alabama. Jane's Dad was James Adair and her mother was "Annis" (not sure if this would be her first or last name?). James Adair was married a second time to Letitia Page. Jane's siblings were Thomas, James Jr., Sarah, Mary and John, who were all said to be born in Virginia, John in Montgomery County. Thomas Justice's parents were John Justice and an "Unknown Cherokee Indian".

My Mom's Mother was Mable Florence Rae, daughter of Josephine Foutz (sp?) and Howard Rea. Josephine's sister was said to have been a famous Rubbing Doctor in Kansas City, Missouri, or Kansas? I haven't been able to get much on my Mom's Mother's side because Howard Rea's parents were never married and he was given his mother's maiden name "Rea" and raised by his grandparents.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND ANY CONNECTIONS!

Richard Williams and his wife Elizabeth T. ____ moved from Virginia (possibly Prince Edward or Buckingham County) about 1839. They settled in Mercer County, Missouri and were among the early founders of a town called Middlebury (which no longer exists). Richard and Elizabeth had these children: Mary, William, Susan, Martha, Royal, James, Henrietta, John, Thomas, Robert (my ancestor), Richard, and Charles. Richard was born abt 1776-1785 and died 7 June 1878. Elizabeth was born abt 1786-1794 and died 26 Jan 1886.

I have placed them on censuses from 1850 forward but cannot find them in 1840. I do not know parents yet for either one. Does anyone have connections to this line?
