Williams Lineages Underway

This section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!

And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

I am interested in whether any of you have found any Cherokee Indian haplogroups of G and Q, especially the lineage of John Williams s.o. Isaac and Rachel (Pike) b 12/19/1765 Orange Co, NC d 1840 Sevier Co. TN.

Obviously I cannot provide any helpful DNA because this is on my paternal side. However, if we can corroborate, I have done approximately 8 years of research and have some oral history that might help with the Sevier side especially and you may be able to help me break through a major brick wall regarding Mary Panther Webb who was reported to be full Cherokee and adopted by the Webbs. This line continues from Mary Ann Panther Webb, then Breeden, then Williams [I trace my John Williams from Guilford, NC to Yancey Co TN, to Sevier and have a map of his land in Sevier].

There is a possibility that a male cousin or uncle of mine may be willing to provide DNA.

Kind Regards.

I am looking for the parents and siblings of Noel Williams (b. about 1806) and Susan of North Carolina. He appears in the 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses in Chatham County, North Carolina.

The children of Noel and Susan were -

Martha Williams, b. 1833

John Williams, b. about 1835. He was married to Nancy Riddle (daughter of Barney Riddle and Nancy Ellington of Chatham County) on 14 April 1867. Their children were J.W. Williams (b. 1868), Robert Dannell Williams (b. 1872), A.T. Williams (b. 1875), and M.A. Williams (b. 1879).

Lucy Williams (b. 1837)

Louisa Williams (b. 1839)

William Williams (b. 1841)

Robert Dannell Williams (1872-1950) was my great-grandfather who married Ida Violette Hornaday (1880-1910). They lived and died in Chatham County, North Carolina.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For quite sometime now, I have had absolutely no information on my William WILLIAMS, born: 1790 or Abt. 1790 in Maryland, other than his wife was Elizabeth ?. I assume Elizabeth ? might have been of French & Indian heritage as my grandfather spoke of that heritage but I have not found it elsewhere. There is no information on William or Elizabeth from his birth info to being in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana before 1840 and then in Franklin Parish, Louisiana. Their son, Otho Holland WILLIAMS may connect them to Maryland lineage with that name but because there was a famous General of that name it might have simply been naming because of him being famous.

William and Elizabeth had other children including my maternal great grandmother, Claranda "Clara" WILLIAMS, who married Hudson H. SLAUGHTER.

Recently I found info on whom I believe my 2nd great grandfather might be and that is one William Eli WILLIAMS, born: March 28, 1789 in Maryland, whom is known to have been in Louisiana and was the son of Otho Holland WILLIAMS, born: March 01, 1749 in Maryland, died: June 15, 1794 in Woodstock, Shenandoah, Virginia, and his wife, Mary Smith, born: 1750 in ?, died: 1785 in ?.

Otho Holland WILLIAMS was the son of Joseph WILLIAMS, born: 1730 in Greensburg, Westmorland, Pennsylvania, and wife, Prudence HOLLAND, born: September 07, 1719 in St. Barnabas Church, Prince George's, Maryland, died: 1764 in Washington, Maryland.

Again, I am not certain that this William Eli WILLIAMS is definitely my 2nd great grandfather but the basics do seem to fit.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone that might be able to help.

In addition, I have two other WILLIAMS lines from the PEMBERTON - WILLIAMS and BILLINGTON - WILLIAMS that both came out of England in the early to mid 1600's into New England and Virginia inclusive of my being descended from Sydrach WILLIAMS, brother of (Reverend) Roger WILLIAMS of Rhode Island.

These two WILLIAMS lines come together for me with my paternal 5th great grandfather, George WILLIAMS, (2nd of his name,) born: 1740 in Virginia, (poss. in Richmond County, Virginia, died: 1768, (poss. in Richmond County, Virginia,) who married Catherine "Caty" ?. He was the 2nd of his name with a brother born earlier dying before he was born.

George WILLIAMS and Catherine "Caty" ? were the parents of my paternal 4th great grandmother, Tabitha WILLIAMS, born: 1766 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond, Virginia, who married Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS,) (2nd of his name as well,) died: 1845 in Mobile, Alabama, after helping settle the Christian County, Kentucky area after the Revolutionary War.

I suspect that this Tabitha WILLIAMS family may be part of the BALLS - WILLIAMS - WASHINGTON family group of (President) George WASHINGTON and his father Augustine WASHINGTON who owned land that adjoined that of (Major) Samuel EARLE, III, (father of Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS,) (2nd of his name,) through his 2nd marriage to Elizabeth HOL(D)BROOK. (Major) Samuel EARLE, III was the 1st elected Member of the House of Burgesses ever from Frederick County, Virginia holding the seat that would later be held by (General) George WASHINGTON. The WASHINGTON, BALL, WILLIAMS family group attended church at the small YEOCOMICO EPISCOPAL CHURCH built on my 5th great grandfather's property in Yeocomico Plantation, Northumberland/Westmoreland County, Virginia which was first settled by two of my paternal 8th great grandfathers, (Sir) John EARLE, who immigrated in 1649, and Thomas HALE, father of Bridget HALE who married as the 1st wife of Samuel EARLE, I, father of Samuel EARLE, II who married Phillis BENNETT, parents of (Major) Samuel EARLE, III.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Bellinda Myrick-Barnett

My great-great grandfather was Simon Dixon of the Cane Creek area of Snow Camp, NC in what is now Alamance County, but was variously Orange County, then Chatham County, and finally Alamance. His parents were Thomas Dixon and Abigail Stuart. Simon was born 27 Feb 1787 and died 13 Jan 1860. He married Elenor Williams 24 Dec 1829 in Chatham County. She was born 25 Feb 1811 and died 18 Jun 1848. I have not been able to find out who her parents were or her siblings. A Margaret Williams was listed in the Census of 1850 in the home of Simon after Elenor died, possibly taking care of the children. Possibly a maiden sister? The children of Simon and Elenor were: Clark, Joshua, Susannah, Lydia, Cleopatra, Solomon and Thomas. Simon and Elenor are buried in Cane Creek Friends Church Cemetery. I have seen her name spelled Eleanor, but it is Elenor on their marriage record and on her tombstone. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!a
