Lineage:  I am researching my Williams family from NC (and possibly SC). My ggg grandfather's name is some sort of variation of Lawson Avery Williams or Avery Lawson Williams (we believe based on word of mouth). I think that he lived in Cleveland County NC and he was married to Margaret Peggy Martin from Burke County NC around 1841 in Caldwell County NC. They had three children with one being my gg grandfather Isaac Avery Williams. He was born in 1844 in Caldwell NC and died in Rutherford County in 1900. He married Catherine Smith in abt 1866 in Burke County NC and they had three children with one being my great grandfather, William Terrell Williams born in 1870 in Burke County. My great grandfather, William Terrell Williams, stated that his grandfather (Lawson Williams) left to fight in the Civil War and that he never returned. Lawson Williams and Margaret Peggy Martin seperated some time before 1850 and she remarried in 1852. My "brick wall" is Lawson Avery Williams born abt 1820. I would guess that he was born in the Burke, Caldwell, Lincoln, Cleveland County area but I have been told that he was originally from York County SC which has not been proven. Anyways, I'm looking for any information that might shed some light on Lawson Avery Williams from the Burke County, NC area in the timespan of 1820-1860. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Lineage:  Robert R. Williams of Powhatan Co., VA

Trying to trace the following family of Robert R. Williams, who died Abt. July 6, 1863, during the Civil War, in Prince Edward Co., VA, having been shot by a deserter:

Letter from Mary, wife of Capt. Richard Watkins
Dated July 13, 1863, Linden, Prince Edward Co., Va.

. . . .A very sad affair happened in Mr. Elbert Redd's family last week (around July 6, 1863). Mr. Bob Williams was killed while sitting at the supper table with his wife and little children around him. Someone shot him through the window, the ball passing through him and breaking several plates on the table. They have no clue to the murderer, but suppose it was a deserter whom he had arrested and who had threatened vengeance on him. His body was brought up to Mr. Redd's yesterday (July 10, 1863) to be buried and Mr. Dance preached the funeral yesterday evening..........

From Capt. Richard Watkins to his wife Mary, from camp near Charleston Va., July 21, 1863

.......the murder of Mr. Williams was truly a sad affair. So far as I could judge from a short visit I once made him, he was a kind husband, a good neighbor and a valuable citizen. His hospitality was proverbial with the soldiers. In his family he had easy agreeable manners and ready wit. I sympathize deeply with his family.

Mary Jane Redd (20 Oct 1833 - 23 June 1896) m Robert Williams d 6 Jul 1863
Ch:
John Wesley Williams (12 Aug 1857-25 Oct 1920) m Annie M Moffett

Elbert Fletcher Redd Williams (30 Nov 1859 Powhatan Co - died Dallas Tex) m Mattie Brown
Robert Robertson Williams "cousin Berta" (6 Apr 1862 Powhatan - ) m John L. Gardner (N.C.)

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
