Williams Lineages Underway
This
section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they
are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall
you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either
have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!
And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

This Does anyone have any information about any Williams' born, married, died, ect..., in Marengo Co., Alabama, Clark(e) Co, Alabama, Clark(e) Co., Mississippi, East Choctaw Co., Alabama, or Simpson Co., Mississippi, or any of the surrounding counties? I am desperately trying to find information about my great-great-grandfather; NATHAN JAMES WILLIAMS. He was a N ative American, of Choctaw descent. He was born in Marengo Co., Alabama, but married MARY JANE BOYKIN in Clark(e), Co., Mississippi. (Mary was of Irish descent.) He was in the Civil War. I was told he died in one of two places; Vicksburg, Mississippi or a Little Rock, Arkansas hospital . His nickname, I was told by my dad , and our cousin, was " Bron " . But others have told me he went by Frank. I want to believe that Frank was Nathan's father's name, but I don't know.
Nathan James Williams was born 2 Sept. 1834 in Marengo Co., Alabama, and died 13 Aug. 1864. He was married to Mary Jane Boykin; daughter of James Alexander Boykin and Matilda Stokes.
I have an e-mail from someone, (a distant cousin), that says Nathan and his family traveled by wagon train out to the northern parts of Texas , Tom Green, Miles, Navarro counties . Many Boykin's and other Williams' were in that wagon train, along with a Frank Williams which made me think it was Nathan's father, or possibly his brother.
James Monroe Williams must had been born in Texas, since his father; Nathan, never saw him after his birth. The family lived in the Tom Green County area of Texas. The births of all of Nathan and Mary's children, is only a guess. I believe their first two children were born either in west central Alabama or in east central Mississippi, near the Mississippi-Alabama border.
In an e-mail received by a genealogy acquaintance, he states that Nathan James Williams served in the Civil War with his brothers-in-law; Solomon Basil Boykin, Samuel Jones Boykin, James Abel Boykin, and James Alexander Boykin Jr. James Abel Boykin was in; Co. H, 16th MS Infantry. Nathan James Williams died before the end of the Civil War, on 13 Aug. 1864. My genealogy correspondent states, Nathan and his brothers-in-law fought at the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and died there. Here's what I have, from the family Bible of James Monroe and Jerushia Acenith Williams. James Monroe was the third child born to Nathan James Williams and Mary Jane Boykin-Williams . James Monroe was born after Nathan's death, so Nathan never saw h is last child , (son).
1) Sara Matilda "Tillie" Williams born 23 Dec. 1859 died 20 Aug. 1877 (This is all the information I have about her. I'd like to know if she was married and any children she may have had.)
2) Williams Franklin "Frank" Williams born 23 Aug. 1860 died possibly 15 Apr. 1888
3) James Monroe Williams (my line) born 13 Jul. 1861 died 3 Dec. 1938 marr. 3 Apr. 1884 to Jerushia Acenith Ingram born 29 Aug. 1868 died 29 Aug. 1942 both buried at the Younger Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas.
James and Jerushia's children; 1) J. J. Williams born 25 Feb. 1885 died 25 Dec. 1887
2) Henry Franklin "Frank" Williams born 2 Apr. 1886 died 27 Dec. 1947 (never married)
3) Mary Acenith "Mamie" Williams born 7 Jul. 1888 died ? Jan. 1951 marr. Ed Campbell

8) James Monroe "Monk" Williams (Jr) born 25 Apr. 1897 died 8 Jan. 1959 marr. Gussie McGlawen

12) Matilda " Tillie " Williams born 14 Apr. 1903 died ? marr. ?
13) Robert Lee "Pat" Williams born 28 Jul. 1905 died 10 Jun. 1977 marr. 12 Apr. 1925 to Bonnie Avis Carolina Ellis

"Boykin Limbs and Stems", by Alva Boykin of Forest, Mississippi , has a chapter on James Alexander Boykin and his descendants. There is other material on ancestors. Alva cites "Solomon Boykin, Jr., 1745-1821, The Lost Generation" , by Joe Boykin, 1981 as the source of this information.
Briefly; James Alexander Boykin, b. 20 Sept . 1802, Burke Co., Georgia, moved with his mother; Delliah McCann, b. abt . 1770, d. 3 Feb 1836 in Simpson Co., Mississippi; and 3 brothers, to Smith Co., Mississippi in 1823, after the death of his father, Solomon Boykin, Jr. in Clarke Co., Alabama in 1821. James died in 1865 in Leon Co.,T exas .
James Alexander Boykin married Matilda Stokes . James was b. 1804 in Barnwell Co., South Carolina , they married on 6 Nov 1822 and he d. 16 Jan 1867 in Leon Co., Texas. They had 13 children, the fifth of whom was Mary Jane Boykin, b. 27 March 1833 in Simpson Co., Mississippi, d. 27 Nov 1904 in Miles, Texas . She was married to Nathan James (Frank ?) Williams in 1958. Nathan is said to have died in the CSA in Vicksburg, Mississippi . (That probably would have been during the siege of 1863). They had 3 children, Sarah or Sara Matilda " Tillie " Williams, William Frank lin "Frank" Williams , and James Monroe Williams. N athan J ames Williams may have been in a M ississippi CSA unit, or a T exas unit.

I am stuck badly on my North Carolina - Edgecombe County Williams ancestors. Haven't yet discovered the parents or co-laterals of Captain Whitmel Williams (aka Whit Williams) b. ca 1804, d. ca 1872 to 1877. One of this Captain Whit's 4 sons was my great grandfather, Perry Jenkins Williams (1841-1879) who served in The War Between the States from Edgecombe County, NC. After the war he and one brother emigrated to South Carolina where each married and had children. Captain Whit Williams married Bethsada Taylor (d/o Rev. Elza Taylor and Partheny [Polly] Cromwell) on 21 January 1824. They had 9 children. Bethsada was born 2 Feb. 1802. In the 1860 Census, Whit Williams is noted to be 56 years old on p. 69, #572-573. I haven't seen it, but my cousin told me the 1850 Census lists him as Whitmel Williams on p.34, #262. Bethsada Taylor Williams' will was filed 5 November 1880 (Book G, p. 582), but I can't find one for Cap't Whit. They apparently lived between Rocky Mount and Tarboro. Some years later on 20 December 1897, one George Oakley bought 18 acres, "part of the Cap't Whit Williams home tract." Edgecombe Deed Book 92, Page 130. I have no clue as to Whitmel Williams' forebears. A long shot is your (wonderful) NC 1790 Williams Census which lists a Whit Williams in Hertford County who *might* be "my" Whit's father, but that is strictly a wild guess as I am going on nothing but the same first name and Hertford's being close to Edgecombe.

I'm searching for my GGrandfanther. I have been finding all my other lines ( well bits & peaces here & there) But I am totally stuck on my Williams. My grandfather was CLINTON BROWN WILLIAMS his father was WILLIAM WILLIAMS & his mother was CHARITY ANN ( aka:Anna - Charlotte- Anne) BRANNON (or BRANHAM according to her marriage license)
William & Charity had several children:
DORA WILLIAMS was born abt 1878 in OHIO but I have no other info on her ( apparently the family disowned her)
REBECCA EVALINE WILLIAMS was born 11/1880
SARAH CATHERINE WILLIAMS b.05/1884
KESIE LAURA WILLIAMS b.05/1887
JEROME ELIJAH WILLIAMS b.8/1892
& grandpa CLINTON BROWN WILLIAMS b.12/1895
I found birth records for Rebecca, Sarah, Kesie & Jerome in the Scioto Co. Ohio Courthouse. along with marriage record for William & Charity. I have not found my grandpa's birth record nor one for Dora. Dora is listed on the 1880 US Census with William & Charity. Sarah & Kesie are on the 1900 & 1910 census. I knew Uncle Jerry ( Jerome Elijah) and of course Grandpa Clinton ( aka CLINT )
Kesie Laura Williams married Robert Arcurgus Lute -aka: Uncle Curg -( my fathers line crosses here because Uncle Curg was my dad uncle from his mothers side.
Jerome Elijah Williams married 1. Bertha Lute & 2. Emily Victoria Breech
Clinton Brown Williams married Luciile Mae Massie .
Does anyone have any of these names in their family tree? I have a family tree my father had done years ago but starting with his Aunts & Uncles he had so much information wrong that I cant rely on it...plus I havent been able to verify anything he had written.

Eli Williams, who was living in NC, received a land grant in Florida from U.S. Congress in 1798 for revolutionary services. This documentation is easy to find, but I have not tied him into our line yet. But, I think he will be there.
ca. 1890 a John Williams and wife, Amelia were living around the Waccasassa Marina and Levy County Boat Landing in Florida. In 1843, Amelia Williams, b. 1822 Florida, married William Monroe Brownlow. William and Amelia Williams Brownlow married in Early County, GA. in 1843. They moved immediately to Nachitoches Parrish, Louisana where their first four children (James Monroe Brownlow, Elias Albert Brownlow, Rebecca Brownlow and Mary E. Brownlow) were born. They moved on to Victoria County, Texas about 1857/8. In the 1860 Victoria County, Texas Census, there is an "N. Williams, age 18, born Florida" living with William and Amelia Brownlow and their children. In 1861/2 another baby, Amelia Brownlow II, was born. Amelia I died in 1862. William was killed in the Civil War before 1864. He had married 2nd. Malinda. Malinda changed the baby's name from Amelia II to Malinda Brownlow II according to the 1870 Census.
A brother, (Benjamin Brownlow, b. Chatham County, NC) to our line moved from Guillford County, NC, to Levy County, FL. Our Brownlow's came out of VA to NC before GA, LA and Texas. Somehow, it seems logical that our Williams line migrated mostly through the same areas with the addition of Florida which was mostly populated by Native Americans at the time.
If anyone has information that would help me tie any of this together, it would be appreciated.

James Williams b: Ireland; cir 1822 d: Jun 4, 1864, Richmond, VA (Union soldier with the 27th Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts. Volunteers, captured at the Battle of Proctor's Creek (Drury Bluff), VA, May 16, 1864 and died as a POW). James married (1) Ellen Hammil, on May 1843 at Fintona, Tyrone, Ireland; b: Ireland, cir 1828, d: Nov 12, 1862, South Adams?, MA and (2) Maria Connors, widow of Thomas Connors, on Jan 20 1863 at St Joseph Church, Pittsfield; b: Ireland cir 1832 d: Oct 10, 1913 in Holyoke, MA.
Parents were John Williams b: Ireland, cir 1795, probably d: before 1870 in Pittsfield, MA; he married: Mary b: Ireland cir: 1788. The were guardians of James' minor children between 1864 and 1874.
Children of James and Ellen:
Mary b: March 17 1845 in Ireland
Thomas H. b: March 12 1852 in Pittsfield, MA married Lucinda Hinman, August 1874 in Becket, MA
Eliza Ellen b: April 12 1854 in Pittsfield, MA
John b: before 1856 (only LDS record on this one, could have died an infant or an error on the record)
Sarah b: Feb 16 1857 in Hinsdale, MA (my great grandmother), married William Brockway Jan 26, 1875
Celia b: Oct 27 1859 (probably died an infant as does not appear in 1860 census)
Of interest, John became guardian of Eliza and Sarah on the death of James and applied for and received his pension until their age 16. Their application showed that 2nd wife Maria was a drunkard and loose woman who fooled around even before James died then abandoned the children. She later applied for the pension when they were no longer minors.
MY Brick WALL: William and Sarah Brockway, my great grandparents, are in the 1880 census in MA. I next find William in Mexico circa 1910 married to a second wife. I have not been able to find out what happed to my great grandmother SARAH.

I am descended from John G. Williams. He was born Sept. 15, 1859 and married Rachel Cornelia Dolly Rochester, Martha Cassie Elizabeth Hunter, and Ida Major. John and Rachel had Julius Newton Williams who was born Oct. 8, 1879 and married Ada Estella Webb. They had Julius Malvin who is my great-grandfather and married Amanda Catherine Graham. To the best of my knowledge most of these Williams stayed in SC.

My grandmother had four sisters. Their maiden name was Jamison. Anna Jamison married a Williams and was living in Nashville, Tn at least in 1920. Not sure but think her husband was Forrest G Williams. Anna born abt 1850-55 in Maury co. Tn. Another of the girls was Adelaide Jamison who first married a Rich Perkerson. He evidently died as she married a Williams. She also lived in Nashville Tn. Both were born in Maury Co. Tn. in 1850's. Would appreciate any ideas.
