Williams Lineages Underway
This
section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they
are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall
you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either
have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!
And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

My grandmother's maiden name AND married name were Williams (no, it's not at all confusing!) BOTH of my father's grandfathers were John Williams (John Green Williams of Orange, VA and John Langborne Williams of Richmond, VA) I have a lot of information about both, though I'm not sure exactly when Grandfather's side (Orange line) came over - Grandmother's side was about 1820. Anyone able to help? Any Orange Co. Virginia/Culpepper Co. Williamses? I have not been able to get as far back as I'd hoped (have gotten to Edward III King of England, no that side,b ut not the Williams line) all I know was there has been a Williams lawyer practicing law w/in 45 miles of where they landed for 200 years....but not sure who the first was.) My sister-in-law's mother was ALSO a Williams, from NC -but not related, her grandfather was Walter Raleigh Wiliams, any information from that line welcomed as well. Yes, there are Williamses EVERYWHERE! One brother did take the DNA test for his own fun, but don't think it was connected to surname test - is there any way to do connect from the results he has? Or would it be necessary to do it again?

I've tracked my lineage back to Abraham Williams Sr. who married a Kizziah Lerber (we believe in Virginia because his son Abraham Jr. married a Martha Patsy Stultz I believe around Pittsylvania.
In trying to get more info on Abraham Sr., who his parents are, etc....we keep hitting dead end after dead end. We know Abe Sr. died in Pulaski County, Ky but even in knowing that we still can't track him back over the mountains to VA for any additional information.

My 3rd great grandmother was Elizabeth Williams (1784 - 1855) She was born in North Carolina according to the 1850 Census,in District 394, Montgomery, GA. her age is listed as 66, she is living with her son and his family and her current husband Mosses Wright, who is 80 years old.
My name is Kitte Hosford Carter, 5-14-48
born in Hosford, Florida
the daughter of Wesley Coe Hosford 1916-1989
who is the son of Robert Lamar Hosford 1890-1967
who is the son of Robert Flournoy Hosford 1842 - 1924
the son of Isaac Russell Hosford, 1812-1877
the son of John Hosford (1782-1812) and Elizabeth Williams (1784-1855)
John Hosford died in 1812, the same year that his and Elizabeth's only son was born, Isaac Russell-
We Know that Elizabeth remarried a Mosses Wright, since they are living with her only son Isaac Russell in Montgomery, Ga, in 1850-
Also we have information that In 1818, Elizabeth Williams HOSFORD was charged in Burke
Co. with committing adultery with a one Moses WRIGHT. Elizabeth & Moses
did marry at some point and later moved to Montgomery Co., GA where
Isaac lived with his family. Elizabeth died 24 Feb. 1855.
My Great Grandfather in 1850 was living with his father and his GrandMother, Elizabeth and he told his son's and grandson (my Dad) that his Mother Elizabeth's father had fought in the Revolutionary War. The letters and bible all burned when the old house burned, my great grandfather, was living in Hosford, Florida where the town was named after him, and he was a judge and Senator- we believe this information is true, but do not know how or who to hire to assist us. Can you give me anyone that might be able to help us? Thanks, Kitte Hosford Carter

My brick wall is my husband's great-grandfather Joseph S Williams. He was in Missouri on the 1870 and 1880 census. It states he was born in Pennsylvania Jan 21, 1822, his father was born in New Jersey and Mother born in Pennsylvania. The 1870 census lists with him Tobetha A Williams ( which I believe her maiden name was Carter) and she was born in Darien, New York, Wilber W Williams age 16 born in PA, Everett C Williams age 8 born in PA, Ellsworth S Williams age 6 born in PA. According to family stories, Everett and Ellsworth were full brothers and Wilber was a half-brother. I cannot find anything about Joseph before he came to Missouri or marriage information about Joseph and Tabitha. Does anyone have any information concerning this family? We have always thought the S stood for Straaton. Also I have a little more information about Tabitha if it is needed. Appreciate any info anyone can provide.

Frederick Williams
Family Notes:The family legend is that Frederick immigrated to the U.S. in 1856 from Germany at the age of 12 with his parents (unknown). His parents died at sea from fever. Frederick had one brother and one sister (also unknown). These children were placed in an orphanage in New York upon arrival in the U.S. His name upon entry to the U.S. may have been Friedrich Wilhelm, however as of this writing, no confirmation has been made.Ancestry.com list a Fredrick Williams in the AIS 1860 census, New York County, NY, 22 W. Nyc Div. 1, page 36. This Frederick is listed as ID# NY584150700, and is the only Fredrick in the New York County census. It is documented that on December 29, 1863, Frederick enlisted into the Union Army at age 19 (I have copy of enlistment papers). His enlistment papers show that he enlisted within the 6th district of the city of New York, New York. Enlisting for a period of 3 years, he reported to Riker's Island, NY on January 6, 1864 and is shown as having blue eyes, brown hair, having fair complexion and being 5' - 5" in height. Riker's Island, in East River, New York, N.Y.; part of Bronx Borough; is now occupied entirely by a large penitentiary.Company Muster Roll's show Frederick served as a private in Company "L" of the 11th regiment, New York Calvary, known as Scott's 900. This company's recruitment area was New York City, Buffalo, Canton, Lewis and Westport, New York. Colonels for this unit were James B. SWAIN and John P. SHERBURNE.It appears as if Frederick received a new recruit "bounty" paid by the U.S. Army every two months. The Company Muster-out Roll dated September 30, 1865 in Memphis, TN shows he was paid $180 to date and was due $120.

Josiah Williams b. 1847
# ID: I43357
# Name: Joisiah Williams (Middle int. I or T)
# Sex: M
# Birth: 20 SEP 1847 in Leesville, Vernon, Louisiana 1 2
Father: Benjamin Williams b: 5 SEP 1818 in Mississippi or Sabine Parish, Louisiana
Mother: Louise Little b: 24 MAY 1823 in Hornbeck, Vernon, Louisiana
Josiah Williams was born 20 Sep 1847 in Vernon Parish, Louisiana to Benjamin Williams and Louisa (Little). Josiah was but 13 when the Civil war began and his uncles Lorenzo, Jesse, James Madison and Samuel L went off to fight for the Confederate States for America. Little is known of Josiah's life before 1894 when he married Malittie Newman (My Grandmother). My father said on several occasions he went by the name Joe and his name on census and documents appears as Joe or Joseph.
He and his first wife (Elizabeth) had three children between 1880 and 1888, Benjamin H, Elmina, and Joseph O. Joe Williams, wife Elizabeth and 3 month old son Benjamin H. are listed on the 1880 Vernon Parish census. We have no record of what happened to Josiah's first wife, but sometime around 1894 he met, and married Malittie Newman. Between 1894 and 1912 they had nine children and lived outside Leesville Vernon Parish Louisiana on a farm. He worked as a rural letter carrier delivering mail by mule in a 6 mile radius until his death in 1912.

My grandmother was Mary Williams Kerr.
She was raised in Providence, Rhode Island by an uncle. The uncle has a clock that he made hanging in Roger Williams Park. I believe her parents died when she was young, as she made her own wedding dress. This leads me to think she was taught to sew by her mother or father at a young age. I'm thinking her mother must of been a Williams due to the middle name being Williams. Also, my father's middle name is William.
She had my father late in life, as did my father have me. She would of been around 18 in 1900. approx.
Any info on this line?
