Williams Lineages Underway

This section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!

And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

My great grandmother was an orphan from Dyersburg, tn. On an 1850 Mulhlenbuerg Co., Ky census, her age is given as 16. She is lving on the estate of Leonard Keplinger, and, also, on this same estate is William McNew, age 23. Later she marries the McNew, has one son, John, William dies and she marries Leonard Keplinger, 43 on 1850 census. She has children by Leonard. One was Len Keplinger who married an O'Brian from Richland, Ky. The other was Susan who married a Rickard from Muhlenberg. Leonard, sr. dies and she marries Samuel Dame and she has children with him and is, also raising children from former marriages. Leonard, sr. must have been well off because my Mother tells me she talked about "remembering when she had her coach and foah". I have no idea who her parents were but both would have been alive around 1835 in Dyersburg, Tn. She says she came to Kentucky with a brother and sister. I have no idea if she had family here, I've never heard their names. She could neither read nor write, I found on a census when she was living with one of her daughters. Her name has been given as Ailsa, Alsey, Elsie, Alsy. Alsey P. Williams. I think she may have been related or close to Baker, as she gave that as a middle name for my grandmother and Berry, whom my Grandmother welcomed as a cousin in later life.

Hi,my grandmother was Daisy Williams. Her Father was Irvin Williams and his father John Williams. All from PA. I see that all of your information is all male and still carry the Williams name. Doesn't that leave a whole side of the lineage out? I do have a brick wall and it is at John Williams. I know were he lived(most of them) and died. I know what county his obituary stated he was born. Which is close enough be connected to you lineage. When I did a search on you site. You did not have any of my families censes or information. Are you only interested in the male part and if so you may be missing a whole branch of males.

Laura Belle Ann Williams b. 1871 Ark and Nancy Adelaide Williams were orphans in the 1880 Cen of Morgan, Sharp Co, Ark living with Jarrett McHalffey family. Martha McHalffey in this family maiden name was Kincaid (d/o Andrew Kincaid and sis of James Kincaid who Laura later married in Sharp Co, Ark.) I think the following is her lineage (based on 1870 and 1860 Census of Morgan, Ark. (was Lawrence Co prior to 1870).

William Williams b. 1823 Ark d. before 1880 Census (between 1875 and 1880). Possibly married first Susannah, maiden name unk, b. 1833 MO (shown with him in 1860 Cen with following children):
Mary J. Williams b. 1856, Ark
Andrew Clinton Williams b. 1858, Ark

In he 1870 Census this family is found with the two children listed above and wife is shown as Lucinda and Census shows that she and William were married in April of 1870. The following children are shown:
Mary Williams b. 1856, Ark
Andrew Clinton Williams b. 1858, Ark
Elizabeth K. Williams b. 1866, Ark (known to be sister of orphans,Laura and Nancy Williams mentioned earlier)
Susan Clementine Williams b. 1868 (known sister of Laura and Nancy Williams).

My great grandmother Laura Belle Williams and sister Nancy Adelaide were born after the 1870 Census (1871 and 1875) and were probably the children of Lucinda who married William Williams in Apr 1870 according to census. The others born before 1870 listed in Census were children of first wife Susannah.

William Williams was shown as a shoemaker in Census. Any information on this family would be very much appreciated.

Elizabeth K. Williams m. Richard A. Croom and Susan Clementine Williams m. John Woody Smith. My ggrandmother, Laura m. James Kincaid and Nancy A. Williams m. Stovall. Laura and James Kincaid moved to Lake City, Craighead Co, Ark after the 1900 Census. The others remained in Sharp Co, Ark. I have info on the descendents of the four sisters but nothing on the others or of their ancestors.

Descendants of William Williams

Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM2 WILLIAMS (WILLIAM1) was born January 31, 1772 in Rockingham County, North Carolina, and died September 30, 1846 in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He married MARY SHREVE Abt. 1805, daughter of DAVID SHREVE and NANCY THOMPSON. She was born Abt. 1788, and died Abt. 1871.

Notes for WILLIAM WILLIAMS:
William Williams was born in 1772. He was known as "Wheelwright" Williams because there were several William Williams living in Rockingham County at the same time. Family Tradition says that the Williamses came to Rockingham County from the state of Maryland. Tradition also relates that members of the family went to Georgia but later returned to Rockingham County. A William Williams, Sr. married Sarah Mitchell of the Jacobs Creek area of Rockingham County sometime during the last half of the 18th Century. She was the daughter of Peter and Susannah Mitchell. William and Sarah Williams went to Oglethorpe County, Georgia, for some years but returned to Rockingham County ca. 1798. They appear to be the parents of "Wheelwright" Williams.
"Wheelwright" Williams married Mary Shreve (1788-1871) ca. 1805. She was the daughter of David and Nancy Thompson Shreve who lived on Wolf Island Creek. In 1809 Williams began purchasing land on the east fork of Jacobs Creek and by 1815 owned a 323 acre farm. With additional purchases he eventually owned a 720 acre plantation reaching from Jacobs Creek to present day Baker's Crossroads.
He was both a farmer and a wheelwright who made wagon wheels. He was interested in education and during the year 1820, sent his children to Yancy Holman's School. In 1828 he was one of the leaders in the community in erecting a building for use as a church and school.
Williams died on September 30, 1846 at the age of 74 and was buried in the Williams Family cemetery on his farm. An inventory of his personal property included a set of wheelwright tools, a set of shoemakers tools, and seven slaves. His wife continued to reside at the homeplace until 1871 when she died after a lengthy illness. In 1872 the Williams property was sold for division among the heirs and one of the sons, Able L. Williams, purchased a portion of the land.
William and Mary Shreve Williams raised a family of 10 children, 5 girls, 5 boys. Source Robert W. Carter and "Heritage of Rockingham County".

2. i. ANDREW S.3 WILLIAMS, d. 1855.
3. ii. ELIZABETH WILLIAMS.

4. iv. NANCY WILLIAMS.
5. v. SALLIE WILLIAMS, b. 1806, Rockingham County, North Carolina; d. 1856, Rockingham County, North Carolina.
6. vi. ROBERT T. WILLIAMS, b. 1810, Rockingham County, North Carolina; d. 1860, Rockingham County, North Carolina.
7. vii. WILLIAM P. WILLIAMS, b. 1818, Rockingham County, North Carolina; d. 1864.

The farthest we have been able to trace our ancestors back to is Baker Williams. We need his parents names and his wifes (Charlotte(Charity)Stringer) parents names. As far as we can tell he was born in 1816 in Ashe county, North Carolina. He married Charlotte Stringer around 1844. She was born between 1824 and 1826 in Ashe county. We are unsure about how may kids they had as every site says something different but we know they had Benjamin J. Williams on March 11th, 1856. Benjamin married twice and had many children. His first child with his second wife (Ida Bell Walker) was Marvin Lester Williams. Please email us if you have any info on Baker Williams and Charlotte (charity) Stringer.

Here's my brick wall. William Robert Williams.
My linage as I have sourced it.
Father: Harold Bryant Williams m. Mary Lucille Hinson

g-parents: William Ivan and Jewell Blanch Morris Williams

gg-parents. William Richard & Minnie Lee Ford Williams

ggg-parents William Robert married to:
1. Martha Segars (children Emma and Jane)
2. Rachel Elizabeth Jones(William Richard,Rachel Elizabeth
Jessie)
3. Rose ?

William Richard's death cert shows parents as William R Williams and Martha Jones. It is supposed that the informant for the death cert. (Mrs Jane Scott) confused the names of Richard's father's first and second wives.

I would appreciate any light that can be shed on this mystery.
