Williams Lineages Underway

This section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!

And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

Unity Williams Rhea Co.,Tenn. She is a major brickwall for me. She was born in 1812 in Rhea Co., was the daughter of George Williams & was later an orphan when she married my Gr-Gr-Grandfather Granville B. Shannon. They say she was a formidable woman and her daughters-in-law wer all afraid of her. That is all I have she died after he did which was in 1878. Would appreciate hearing from you if you can help.

I have searched for years and found absolutely nothing on her. Her line looks like this; Robt. Williams > Edmund Williams b1745 Mass d1795 Wash. I don't know the name of Purviance Williams' first wife, or whether she made it to TX. He did however have five children with him when he > arrived in Panola County, TX in 1836-37. His sons were William Newton Williams, b. 1829 in TN; James P., b. 1831 in TN (my g-gfather); Robert Pinkney, b. 1834 in TN; Eliza J., b. 1836; Benjamin, b. 1837 in TN. The family history indicates that he came with his brother, John W. Williams, b.abt 1816 in TN. His wife was Elizabeth Ann (Betsey), b. abt 1817 in KY. I have very good records after he arrived in TX and would be happy to share it with anyone who would be interested.

I have Joseph J. Williams born in March 1803 SC (although some censuses for children later show him born GA). Still, if he says SC in 1850, that's what I'm going with for now. J oseph marries at least twice and possibly more times in Gibson and Pike Counties of Indiana. That's where I find him and some relation of his, Thomas Williams in 1820-1830.

Thomas Williams marries Hannah LINDSEY in Gibson County IN on 3/12/1816. Hannah is the daughter of James Lindsey and Susannah HINCH. (Other related families are ALEXANDER, FOUTS, HURST, DEWITT, GLADISH.) Have transcript of James' will dated 1817 Pike County IN. He leaves land to his daughters in KY on waters Sandy River (today at the border of KY and West Virginia, Virginia). Thomas Williams and Hannah are buried at the White River Chapel Cemetery (aka Bowman or WILLIAMS Cemetery in Pike County IN).

Thomas Williams 12/25/1790 ? 2/12/1844
Hannah Williams 9/5/1796 ? 1/2/1841

There are several marriages in Gibson and Pike counties of interest, but I have no proof of which on of these if any (or all?) belong to ?my? Joseph:

Joseph Williams marries Rueyann PARKER 3/24/1833, Pike
Joseph J. Williams marries Eleanor ROBERTS 9/3/1840, Gibson
I.J. (or J.J.?) Williams marries Jane Roberts 12/16/1827, Gibson

I believe that Hiram, John and Charles may be children of Thomas and Hannah, but again no proof. Hiram is named in Joseph's 1856 will along with George, Emley and Eliza J. (married Alfred Davisson).

Joseph marries again, Juliett CATT in March 1851 Pike County. This is my mother's direct line. Joseph dies 3/5/1856 and is buried at White River Chapel Cemetery.

I have further information on the descendants of Joseph and Juliett, but continue to ?hunt? for more information and ancestry of Joseph and Thomas.

Here is my research on descendents of Robert T. Williams:

My ggrandfather Robert T. Williams (b. 20 April 1845, d. 24 Sept. 1884) shows up in the household of a Robert Williams, b. abt. 1805: (Limestone Co., AL Census - 21 of Oct. 1850).

Frederick was born in Tennessee whereas Robert T. and all the rest were born in Alabama. "The Young Families of Early Giles County, Tennessee," gives brothers and sisters of Robert T. Williams as Frederick, b. July 1842, Charlotte G.(J.?) b. 1840s, W. T. b. 21 Aug. 1846, Enoch b. 11 March 1848, and Martha J.; W. T. must be William James.

The family shows up in the Lauderdale Co., AL census - Precinct 1 - 31 July 1860. Here Robert T. is said to be born in Tennessee rather then Alabama. The elder Robert and Robert T. Williams show up again in the 1870 census living with a Moses Sweeny. Close neighbors are Anderson Sweeny, Edwin Sweeny, Angaline Sweeny, Levi Sweeny, and Amanda Sweeny. Moses Sweeny is evidently the son Anderson Seeny who was b. abt. 1800 in Rowan Co., NC. In the 1840 census a Robert Williams - deaf & dumb - wrong age - lives surrounded by John Sweeny, Lucinda Sweeny, Jesse Sweeny, and Mary Sweeny. There must be a connection between the Sweeny and the williams families. Robert T. Williams shows up again in the 1880 Tenn Census District 11 Page 215.

Children of Robert T. Williams and Louisa Catherine Young are: Thomas Adkins Williams, b. 25 April 1871; Mala Myrtle Williams, b. 18 June 1873; Clarence James William, b. 19 Jan. 1875; Charles Abernathy Williams (my grandfather), b. 10 Nov., 1877; and Ila Mae Williams, b. 26 July, 1881. All were born in Giles Co., TN and all died in Texas except Mala who died young.

Charles Abernathy William shows up in Texas in 1900; Archer Co., TX 1900 census.
