Williams Lineages Underway

This section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!

And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

JOHN R. WILLIAMS AND WIFE NELLIE WILLIAMS.....(My Great Grandparents)...John R. was born in West Virginia 02/08/ 1852, maybe around Winchester, or maybe Shenandoah Valley. He went to a school called Three Run School. He was of Methodist religion. Died March 12, 1925 in Corrigan, Texas. Children were Ruth Eva, Josephine L., Ishmael. I would like to find out about their family that they left behind...possibly from St. Joseph, Missouri, or maybe York, Nebraska, or in West Virginia. I have not been able to trace them back that far, and don't know how they ended up in Nebraska from West Virginia or when. They came to Texas in a covered wagon maybe around 1895 give or take a few years. In those days, why on earth would a married couple and small children decide to take such a perilous journey all alone and leave behind whatever family they had?? This puzzles me. Were they running away from something, or somebody? Also, without a clear destination in mind....they settled in Corrigan, Texas. (When he and Nellie were married, they bought a house near her parents...the state line of Virginia and West Virginia ran between their house and her parents house.......supposedly their house had at one time had housed the Jesse James gang.) I do not know Nellie's maiden name. They are both buried in Corrigan, Texas Union Springs Cemetary. I feel sure that they left behind brothers and sisters, etc, who I am related to. I'd like to know who their parents were, and more about their life back in Missouri or Nebraska or West Virginia.

My ancestor was Isaac Williams, Pendleton District, SC, who died of rattlesnake bite on July 4, 1818. He married Mary McDow of North Carolina, and had my ancestor, Eli Williams, born about 1812. Searching for father of Isaac, who was possibly Caleb Williams, also of Pendleton District, SC. (Henry VIII was the cause of there being so many Williamses. In Wales, home of the clan, men had only one name, as John ap (son of) William. Henry said this caused too many bookkeeping problems, and so everyone had to have a surname, so many chose their father's given name - William, which became Williamson, shortened to Williams. Thus, there could be a whole village full of Williamses, and none necessarily would be kin to another).

my Williams lineage starts with Rebecca Mahala Williams, born August 31, 1849 in Missouri, to parents Lewis Williams and Nancy York Williams. Lewis was born probably in Surry County, NC, December 9, 1809, and died in Jackson County, Missouri, July 1, 1869. Lewis and Nancy married September 7, 1833 in Surry. His wife Nancy remarried Nicholas Hutchens and died November 10, 1898, in Jackson County. Lewis was the son of Thomas Williams of Surry, I believe.

My "brick" is a Leonard S. Williams who I believe was born in New Jersey around 1805 (the date from a family history lists Nov. 26 1805) I cannot seem to find any information besides an 1840 Madison Township, Richland County Ohio Census. I believe he died in between 1840 and 1850 as family history indicates he died during a well-digging accident, and his widow Adeline (Adaline) is listed on the 1850 census. Their children: Enos, Julia, Leonard, Lewis, and Harvey are all listed on the 1850 Census as well.
