Williams Lineages Underway
This
section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they
are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall
you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either
have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!
And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

Thomas Williams b. October 6, 1931, Mansfield, TX
father: Thomas Henry Williams b. 1892,Mansfield, TX
Mother: Ethel (Woods) Williams b 1907 in Knox Co.TX.
Thomas Henry Williams' Father: John Jonathan Williams b. in Shelby Co., TX.1865? John Jonathan's Father was
Leroy Guthrie Williams b.1827/1835 in Stewart Co. GA
Leroy's Father: Jonathon and Ann (Guthrey) Williams m. in Hall Co. GA I think Jonathon Williams is the son of Robert Williams. Some of this information is not proven. The search now switches to the Guthrie Family. Leroy Guthrie is listed on 1820,1830,1840 Census in Hall Co. GA.
Ann Guthrie mentioned above is the daughter of Leroy Guthrie. She was mentioned in the will of Leroy Guthrie. She received money from the settlement of Leroy Guthries Estate. The money was given to "John" not Jonathan Williams, Ann's husband, as was the custom then. I could not find Jonathan again or Ann either.
The Guthrie family goes back to Robert Guthrie b. in SC about 1887 in Elbert Co. Ga. Most of these Guthries lived in Hall Co. Before going to Walker Co., Alabama

This is a verbatum transcrition of my G-G-Grandfather's record of his life. This has been an elusive line to track prior to Zach's parents, William Williams and Jane (Jenny) Wilburn Williams, and for the majority of his children. He is listed as Z.J. Williams on the 23rd Georgia Infantry Rolls.
August 3, 1908 The Life of Z. I. Williams
Was born in North Carolina, Surry County, on the 8th day of Nov. 1839. Moved with his parents William and Jennie Williams to Georgia in 1849. Settled in North Ga. Pickens Co. and there grew to manhood, and when the Civil War broke out volunteered in 1861 then being 21 years of age.
After drilling at Camp McDonald or Big Shanty we went directly to Richmond, Va. then to Yorktown, Va., wintered there in 1861. The spring of 1862 we took up the march to Richmond, Va. We fought a skirmish at Williamsburg, Va. then came the Battle of the Seven Pines, then the seven days fight in front of Richmond where my regiment suffered heavy loss. I was in the campaign in the valley of Va. We fought the second battle of Manases then went to Gettysburge. Our loss was very heavy on this battle also on our return march across the Patomac. We fought the battle of Fredricksburge in December 1862. We then went into winter until the spring of 1863.
We then fought the battle of Chancellorsville, where "Stonewall" Jackson was killed by one of his own men. My regiment (Twenty-third Georgia) was captured during this fight and taken to Ft. Delaware prison after exchanging we landed at West Point near Petersburg, Va. We did coast duty for rest and to recruit our regiment. After this our regiment did coast duty on the North Carolina coast down to Charleston, South Carolina defending Ft. Sumtre that was besieged but never taken by the Yankees. We fought on Morriss island and the boat we were on was sunk three miles from land. This was a trying event. We wintered on the James Island near Charleston in 1863. In The spring of 1864 we went to Fla. and fought the battle of Olusta or Ocean Pond. We there fought negroes in the front rank but succeeded in routing them running them from three o'clock in the evening until nine o'clock at night. We got back to Charleston, South Carolina and I was transferred to Johnston's Army as Lieutenant of the Thirty-sixth Ga. Regiment. I fought in the Battle of New Hope Church and went on to Atlanta, Ga. fighting every day. We fought the Peach Tree Creek battle and afterwards the battle of Jonesboro and at the Fall of Atlanta I was wounded in my right arm on the 31st day of Aug. 1864. After recovering from my wound I joined my army in Mississippi and followed Sherman to Kingston battle in N.C. and fought the battle of Bentonville, N.C. the last battle that was fought. I fought with my old twenty-third regiment at the surrender. I did not surrender until after I came home. My people begged me to surrender so I surrendered at Kingston, Ga. with the rank of Captain. I then went home and went to work and have ever tried to make a good citizen.
I married Miss Mary Fuller on the 1st of Jan. 1867, which proved to be a happy union. She departed from this life on the 16th day of April 1906. We moved to Texas in 1871 lived in Caldwell, Gaudloupe and Hays Co. and now live in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. I was converted at Yorktown Va. I am now a member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo.
(Signed) Z. I. WILLIAMS
Company E, Twenty-third Georgia, Regiment
Colquitt Brigade, Jacksons Corps.
Z.I. Williams' actual name was Zachary Isbell Williams. He married Mary Artness Fuller in Talking Rock, Pickens County, Georgia.
If you descend from this line, would be pleased to correspond with you. We also have some unidentified photos of, in all probability, his children and thier families.

My most distant known Williams ancestor was Thomas Williams, born in Stoke Climsland, Cornwall, England about 1800. He married Mary Jenkin in South Petherwin, Cornwall, in 1825. Their children: Mary Anne, Joanna, John born 1830(my great grandfather), Thomas James, Grace, Samuel, and Thomas.
I only know about John. He married a Mary unknown, settled in St Agnes near Truro, Cornwall and had 5 children: Thomas, Elizabeth Jane, John (my grandfather), Mary Ann and Samuel.
Thomas, John, and Samuel emigrated to Pennsylvania in the late 1880's. Samuel died in a copper mine in Butte, Montana and probably left no family. Thomas may have lost one leg. He was a coal miner and was believed drowned in the Johnstown Flood. We don't know if he had a surviving family or not.
John Williams returned to Cornwall after losing both brothers.

I am seeking the birthplace and the parents of Daniel David Williams born in Connecticut in 1787, married Anna Eick(s)? of Hunterdon NJ and came with her about 1816 -1820 to what is today Schuyler County NY, town of Hector, village of Burdett. He and Anna are buried in the Burdett Presbyterian Cemetary. Unfortunately the 1790 1810 census records for New Jersey were destroyed by the British in the War of 1812.
One cousin thought DDW came from a Williams line in Wethersfield, CT but I have not been able to establish proof. Daniel and Anna named their eldest son Solomon so we have been trying to make a link to a Solomon.
Daniel David Williams ( b.1787 d. January 28, 1846 aged 58 years 10 months 1 day) is buried in the Burdett Presbyterian Church cemetery with his wife Anna Eicks whose father was Jacob or Herbert Eicks of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Family lore says Eicks was a veteran of the Revolution – I have not been able to verify this. The stone next to Daniel says Ann (b. July 29, 1795 d. April 19, 1867 age 72 years, 8 months, 8 days). There is a stone next to them that says Mary, daughter of Daniel and Ann d. July 4, 1847 18 years, 9 months, 2 days . She would have been born in 1829.
Children of Daniel David and Anna:
Margaret
Solomon b. 1823 d. 1880
Married Mariah Brink – they had nine children, the eldest son was Charles Benton b. 1860 d. 1927. He married Mary Coon and they had nine children. Their oldest daughter was Louise (1886-1973) who graduated from Cornell University and married James Cameron Argetsinger (1883-1955) of Burdett, also a graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School. They had one son Cameron Reynolds Argetsinger (1921-) who married Jean Sause and they have nine children. I am Louise Benton Argetsinger Kanaley, the oldest daughter.
Philander b. 1826 died in 1850 in Panama enroute to the California Gold Rush
Oliver Hazzard 1828 -1914(owner of Lake Road Fruit Farm)
Mary Ann b.1829 -1847
William (twin) b. 1830 d. 1898
Had a son Jacob (1865-1937) Jake who married Abbie Halwick (1859-1934) Their daughter Hope (1905) was a school teacher in Endicott
Jacob (twin) b. 1830 d. 1906
Married Henrietta Bennett
Had daughter Rita d. 1915
Had son William who married Lina Robinson daughter of Oliver Robinson. They had daughter Elizabeth (Betty)

Through research done by Ed Tatum, Nick VB Williams Jr. of group 9 has extended his family tree by several more generations. Previously, Elisha Williams b. ca 1746, his third great grandfather, was the oldest generation known.
We now know through wills and deeds that Elisha's father is Joshua Williams who lived in the Scotland Neck, NC area. Previously, we thought Elisha's father was William Williams, but the research has proved that the land that was once Joshua's, willed to him by his unmarried brother Elisha, becames land that Joshua's son Elisha inherited and subsequently sold. He sold this land when he had moved to Franklin Co., NC after 1797. In 1804 the family moved to Nashville, TN where Elisha died in 1811.
With this information, it looks likely that Joshua's father was a Richard Williams who probably married Sarah Daughtry and that Richard was the son of John Williams and poss. wife Elizabeth Ann Whitley.... but proof of that link still remains to be confirmed.
If correct, then this would make RA Williams Jr., also of group 9, and our lineage linked, since RA Williams Jr. has traced his line back to a John Williams, son of John Williams and possible wife Elizabeth Ann Whitley. Therefore, RA's John and Nick's Richard would have been brothers.
Any proof of this lineage would be welcome. And if anyone wants copies of the wills, and deeds, please let me know? Once the source documents site is up and running, I will post the wills on that site.

My g-g-g-grandfather was John M. Williams of Anson County, NC. He is buried in the New Salem Cemetery in Cayce, MS. His wife was Olive, of whom I have no other information. Between 1830 and 1840 the entire faimly moved to Marshall Co, MS. Joseph John Williams, my g-g-grandfather, born 1815 in Anson Co, married Mary Jane Hooker in 1839 in MS. I have been unsuccessful in locating the birth date of Joseph John, or any information on the family in NC. If anyone is working on this line, I would appreciate sharing family history. Thank you.
